- Town travel to Newtown

Denbigh Town will be looking to reverse their recent fortunes as they head to mid-Wales this weekend for a clash with Guilsfield.

Moved from Clos Mytton to Newtown’s Latham Park, it’s set to be an intriguing match with both sides looking to finish strong.

Guilsfield v Denbigh Town
Date: 23/03/2024
Kick-Off: 14:30
Location: Latham Park, Newtown
Competition: JD Cymru North

Form

Town come into this one on the back of a bitterly disappointing 5-2 loss at home to Gresford Athletic on Tuesday. Just Denbigh’s second home loss in the league this season, the walls of fortress Central Park were bombarded before shattering in the second half against the Colliers. Despite goals from Josh Lock and Owen Davies to give Town the lead twice, Athletic made five changes and two of their switches netted to reverse the 2-1 scoreline in their favour.

Denbigh’s last win came over Chirk AAA where Dewi Llion’s side demolished the relegated side 6-1. Town haven’t won away from home since early February when triumphing 2-1 over Buckley.

Guilsfield are unbeaten in their last three matches having earned a point at the weekend at home to Caersws. Iwan Matthews and Callum Bromley netted in the mid-Wales derby clash. It followed on from comfortable wins over Porthmadog (4-0) and Llanidloes (4-1). It’s a real turnaround from the six games without a win at the end of January going into the beginning of March.

Head-to-Head

This will be the 20th meeting between the two sides with all matches coming in the second tier. Our last clash came just four weeks ago when Guilsfield travelled to Central Park. The visitors took the lead before a Lock leveller. In the second half Matthews restored the lead before Owen Davies netted with 94 minutes gone to secure a point.

This will be the first time Denbigh have travelled to take on Guilsfield since March 2019 when Kristian Pierce’s lone goal proved to be the difference at Clos Mytton.
Guilsfield’s last victory over Denbigh came at Central Park in October 2018, whilst they haven’t won at home against Town since September 2016, in a 5-0 thrashing. Of the current Town squad, just Matthew Worrall and Kristian Pierce have scored for Denbigh in this fixture.

Meanwhile, this will be Town’s first trip to Latham Park since April 2023, where we lost out narrowly in the FAW Amateur Trophy Final against Trethomas Bluebirds.

Stat Pack

Ben Lockley is looking to make his 50th league appearance for Denbigh Town this weekend.

Dan Parry-Jones is also looking to make his 50th appearance in the league for the club.

Town will be looking to avoid a third successive defeat, having not done so since April 2019.

Town will be looking for their first-ever win at Latham Park.
