REPORT | Denbigh Town Reserves 7-1 Mold Alexandra Reserves

Ollie Beech28 Feb - 22:15

- Rampant Reserves up to 6th

Denbigh Town Reserves moved up to sixth in the FAW Reserve League North East on Friday night with the dismantling of Mold.

Nash’s side came from behind at Central Park to take a 3-1 lead into the break before a further four including a wild hatrick from Kyle Cooper with two from corners and from the halfway line.

One change was made from the side that beat Connah’s Quay Nomads a week previous with Aled Hughes starting for the first time in place of the absent Serhad Kanli.

The first chance fell to Town on 10 minutes when Hughes worked well down the left before cutting inside and laying the ball to Hinchcliffe, but the latter’s effort inside the box was no challenge for Oliver Jones.

Mold’s first foray into Town territory saw them open the scoring on 15 minutes when a loose ball in the box following a cross was lashed home by Zac Barnes. Denbigh responded well as Morgan Fricker did well to keep the ball in play at the byline on the left before finding Sam Tate who forced the ‘keeper into a smart save. Seconds later, Salisbury had a shot whizz across the face of goal.

On the 20-minute mark Denbigh levelled as Gabriel Hinchcliffe danced through defenders before finding the net via the left post. Fifteen minutes later and Denbigh were ahead when the first of three bizarre goals from Cooper found the target. With his left foot he wrapped his boot around the ball to swing in a corner which flew over everyone and into the far corner.

Four minutes later a through ball to Salisbury was latched on to before Jones denied him one on one, moments later Hughes linked up with Salisbury with the forward again denied by the keeper at an angle.

However, with five minutes of the half remaining Cooper stepped up once more for a corner with his cross again missing everyone and finding the back of the net.

Half-Time: Denbigh Town 3-1 Mold Alexandra

Within seconds of the restart Town had a chance to make it four when Hughes intercepted the ball and laid it to Salisbury, but his effort deflected wide. From the resulting corner, Cooper could only find the side netting.

Salisbury finally had his first goal on 50 minutes when on the edge of the box on the left hand side he rifled his effort into the top right corner. Two minutes later Town had five and Salisbury had two when a corner found the 17-year old who directed it home.

A minute before the hour mark and Cooper had his hatrick in incredible fashion. A routine free-kick on the halfway line saw the defender strike, catching the goalkeeper off guard, to complete a ridiculous trio of goals.

Denbigh rounded off the scoring with another set piece which substitute Sam Luke got on the end of to make it seven.

Salisbury was desperate for his hatrick but Jones, despite conceding seven, put in a brilliant shot-stopping performance to deny Salisbury with a string of opportunities.

The Reserves are next in action on Friday away at TNS.
