Elfed Lloyd reporting: It was clear from the off that the host team were going to have to work hard to keep out the visitors attack, as Denbigh dominated the early possession. Luke Humphreys went close early on, as a ran onto a great ball from Tom Matishock, only to be denied by the keeper who saved well at the strikers feet.

Denbigh squandered a number of chances to take an early lead, until Luke Appleby cut in from the right, and let fly with a thunderous shot that found the top right corner. It wasn't long until they doubled their lead, as Humphreys got his rewards and slotted home to give the visiting team a deserved 2 goal half time advantage.

The second half started much as the first finished, with Denbigh dominating the ball. Once again, the visitors had to wait some time before finally getting the breakthrough. Youngster Adam Jones, playing his first competitive senior game, was instrumental in the build up, with Luke Humphreys netting his second of the day. Denbigh could have quickly made it four, when Matty Blake was fortunate to be awarded a penalty following a good run into the box, but the resulting spot kick was well saved by the home keeper, Humphreys missing his opportunity of a hat-trick.

Blaeanau threatened a little more towards the latter stages, and got their rewards with another debatable spot kick, which Louis Pritchard was unable to keep out.

It ended 1-3, but on a different day, and had Denbigh been more clinical, the score line could have been much more. The most important thing was to get their league campaign off with a win, and now they look forward to a home game versus Meliden Res at Central Park on Friday Night.
